Prix The spectre of team orders was in the air in the warring Force India garage after the duo’s rivalry resulted in a series of clashes and crashes Force India’s Esteban Ocon (L) and Sergio Perez during a press conference at ahead of the Italian Grand Prix AFP But after Perez and Ocon held clear the air talks on Thursday their team have decided to let them race freely in Monza Deputy team chief Bob Fernley told reporters that days of discussions had ensured that Mexican Perez and French rookie Ocon understood the expectations and had accepted them "From a team point of view we’ve got to make sure fourth place (in the constructors’ championship) is secured" he said "It’s very important for the team and from their point of view they need to make sure they keep their reputations intact because there’s a future for them beyond Force India — for both of them" Both men have been linked with other teams and it was expected that their rivalry — culminating in two collisions at last Sunday’s Belgian race — would have to be muted by the introduction of team orders But Fernley said Force India wished to allow them to race but in a more respectful and less reckless fashion "We don’t want to prevent that (racing)” he said "There are a number of situations in a race that you can’t control – the start for instance "How do you control the start when there are cars going in all directions So the answer is we want to encourage them to race but we want them to do it responsibly" He added: "You’ve got to accept that we’ve got two great and very talented drivers and both of them are obviously very focused and very determined… "That’s exactly what we want and we don’t want in any way to dilute that The chats that we’ve had haven’t worked They’ve obviously had to be a little bit stronger” "They’re intelligent guys and they’ve sorted it out amongst themselves and realised it’s not going to help their careers "They know themselves they’ve gone through the footage they’ve sat down and looked at it with the team They realise that there was an error of judgement on both their parts on a couple of occasions and they’ll grow up and deal with it" Fernley denied that the drivers had been threatened with sanctions such as a race ban "The first thing is that whatever we do from a team order point of view is obviously an internal matter and wouldn’t be shared "We’ll deal with what we need to deal with as and when but I don’t think there will need to be anything as Draconian as that "All of the top teams have the same problem at some point all get resolved and all move on It’s part of the growing process" Mohammad Amir’s re-entry into international cricket in the limited-overs series against New Zealand in January 2016 was an event of great significance for Pakistan cricket For a start it marked the return of a bowler who in terms of pure talent was regarded at one point as the true successor to Wasim Akram His exile from international cricket which was triggered due to his involvement in the 2010 spot-fixing scandal wiped out five crucial years which could have seen him propel himself to greatness More importantly though for Pakistan the lack of good pace-bowling options due to the removal of Mohammad Asif and Amir in such a dramatic manner in 2010 had left a huge abyss in terms of bowling fire-power The replacements for Amir such as Junaid Khan and Wahab Riaz were found to be wanting in their effectiveness for Pakistan Mohammad Amir has bowled consistently well in after his comeback AFP Amir thus restarted his international career with a huge weight of expectations on his shoulders It was a general assumption possibly a flawed one that the young fast-bowler would continue where he left off in 2010 and take Pakistan to greater heights But the reality was very different A combination of bad luck and the possible erosion of skills due to time spent away from the game meant that Amir’s wicket column remained on the thin side While he was continually described as bowling well and the best Pakistan fast-bowler on display there was a distinct lack of match-winning performances in all forms of the game which was starting to hurt Pakistan It is in this context that Amir’s role in the thrilling victory against Sri Lanka in the Champions Trophy had great significance for the bowler’s own career It was also important for Pakistan in the short-term as they look forward to the upcoming semi-final against England and has long-term implications with Amir’s status being confirmed as the leader of the bowling attack His performance against Sri Lanka where he picked up two crucial wickets and then defied odds to stay 28 not out as he helped his captain steal victory from a somewhat impossible situation was a matter of great satisfaction “I feel that I had been bowling well for a while but I was a little unlucky as I wasn’t able to get wickets Today (Monday) I got wickets which is great but also my batting worked and for that I have to thank and give credit to our batting coach Grant Flower He has worked very hard with me on my batting and also believes that I can become a good all-rounder as long as I take my batting seriously” he commented after the match To most pundits Pakistan’s victory against South Africa was nothing more than a flash in the pan given the disastrous loss against India in the game before The precarious position Pakistan found themselves in during the game against Sri Lanka had the danger of proving the critics right It was left to the brilliance of captain Sarfraz Ahmed and some obdurate resistance by Amir to save the day for Pakistan after they had been reduced to 162/7 in pursuit of a target of 237 It was Sarfraz as Amir explained who lead the way encouraging the fast-bowler to provide able support to his captain “When I came in to bat there were a few overs left in the innings and the required run rate was around three an over There really was no reason to panic so Sarfraz told me to concentrate on seeing-off the main bowlers who did not have many overs left at that time He felt that if we could see off the main bowlers then he could take us to victory but he did want me to bat as long as possible and not play any rash shots Our plan was to rotate the strike and thankfully that plan paid off" It may well be easy to speak of keeping one’s cool in hindsight but only Amir and Sarfraz would know the pressure involved in such tense games As Amir said “I always enjoy myself when I am batting and today (Monday) when I came into bat Sarfraz told me to play calmly as the required run rate was not that high He was very calm although he isn’t always that way This was a high-pressure situation but I would like to thank Sarfraz as he was guiding me really well and he himself played an outstanding knock” While it would be right to praise the Pakistan captain for his presence of mind to lead his side to victory it would also be correct to point out some element of luck that helped Pakistan as well The various misfields over throws and crucially the two dropped chances which had Sarfraz looking to the heavens also played a huge role in the final result “I am a firm believer that you need luck to be successful in cricket Even Sarfraz admitted to that in his remarks at the end of the game as he felt that the Almighty was looking after him during the time he was at the crease" the 25-year-old bowler said However to many who would be worried about Pakistan’s up and down performances which point out old weaknesses Mohammad Amir had this simple message “There is no doubt that we didn’t perform well against India but this can happen in a game of cricket as you can under-perform on a particular day However for me our fielding and bowling against South Africa really lifted the team a lot Even in the game against Sri Lanka we seemed to be doing well at the start when we were batting but then this is what cricket is all about A loss of a few wickets can completely change the complexion of the game but thankfully we persisted and won the game" The five years Amir spent away from the game he loved was a sobering period which seemed to have made him hungrier for more success However it would have been disheartening for the pace-bowler to see that success was not forthcoming at a rate he had expected Although the success against Sri Lanka seems to have pleased him to no end “As a senior bowler one always gets frustrated when you cannot get wickets The only solution to this is to work hard and try and put in your best in every game which is exactly my objective as well I did the same against Sri Lanka and with the Almighty’s help I was able to get two wickets” The adage that fast-bowlers always hunt in pairs is one that Pakistan have implemented with good effect throughout their cricket history The Imran-Sarfraz Wasim-Waqar and Amir-Asif pairings brought a lot of joy to Pakistan but in recent times it’s only been Amir who has been carrying the burden of the pace attack on his shoulders It is that reason why the re-emergence of Junaid and the meteoric rise of Hasan Ali has brought relief to Pakistan supporters "Junaid Khan’s form has been awesome and he has been performing really well during this competition starting with the performance against Bangladesh in the warm-up game Hasan Ali has improved by leaps and bounds as well and that is great news for the Pakistan pace attack" stated Amir After the end of the Group stage all attention is now focussed towards the upcoming semi-final games Bangladesh will take on India on Thursday while Pakistan have a tough assignment as they take on the tournament favourites England in Cardiff on Wednesday Pakistan while overjoyed with their recent successes are under no illusion about the tough task ahead "All teams that make it to the semi-final stage need to be respected and there is no room for complacency There is no doubt that the match against England will be a tough one but you have to remember that whoever plays well on the day can win We have also improved a lot during this tournament and our bowling and fielding is providing us with a boost to our confidence We will also take a lot away from the game against Sri Lanka as winning a game under such pressure gives you a lot of confidence The semi-final will be played on a true cricketing wicket and with some sunshine before the game the audience can expect to see a good game of cricket played on a good pitch So we are very hopeful of a good result against England and I feel that the semi-final will be an exciting game to watch for all" Amir concluded while expressing cautious optimism ahead of the gameboth Shorey and Pathak play characters who have been wronged by a corrupt entrepreneur.Light Welter consistent yorkers like his younger fast-bowling counterpart Jasprit Bumrah Indian pacer Umesh Yadav says his action is more suited for full length outswing deliveries "I know a lot of bowlers are judged by their ability to bowl yorkers at the death I can also bowl yorkers effectively but it is a delivery that can go wrong as it is difficult to bowl consistently" Yadav told PTI during an exclusive interaction "There would be days when the length would be wrong The advantage for Jasprit (Bumrah) is that his action is natural when it comes to bowling yorkers while my action means that my stock ball will be outswinger" he said Yadav over the years has always said he would not compromise on pace for line and length as speed is one area which is non-negotiable for him Umesh Yadav was quick and accurate against Delhi BCCI "It has taken years of hard work to work up a fair level of pace at which I bowl my deliveries It is my endeavour to get it right at this pace and if you ask me my consistency has at least improved by 20 percent in past one year That’s my assessment "If I become a line and length bowler then one thing is for sure that I will never ever gain the earlier pace back You can increase speed but after decreasing speed you can’t get the original pace back" said Yadav who has played 17 Tests and 57 ODIs and a T20 Internationals While his stock ball is outswinger Umesh said he is now more confident of his ability to bowl the inswingers to right-handed batsmen "My inswinging deliveries have got better and I am more confident while executing them But yes I would not deny that there are times my deliveries drift down to the leg-side in my bid to bowl the incoming deliveries "An effective inswinger is that which starts from the imaginary fifth off-stump and shapes into the off-middle region If we start from off-middle region the delivery invariably swings towards the leg-stump and becomes easy meat for the batsmen" With demands of three formats Yadav feels that managing the body becomes very important especially during the IPL where the schedule is interspersed with travelling on every second day "During IPL there are times that the muscle tissues tire due to frequent travelling and playing matches The recovery for a fast bowler is very important" He has played 9 matches for Kolkata Knight Riders this year taking 10 wickets but termed his season an "average one" so far "Actually I started well in the IPL and felt that it was going well for me till the RCB match in Bengaluru where I went for a lot of runs (56 in four overs) Actually T20 is such a format that it is impossible that you won’t get hit But hopefully I would be at my best in the coming games" concluded the Vidarbha paceman Written by Express News Service | Ambala | decrease in the number of rural poor accompanied by an increase in number of urban poor would lead to 205 million people living in slums in Maharashtra by 2017 The recently released 2011 Maharashtra Human Development Index (HDI) report points out that the slum population of the state would account for a fifth of the country’s total projected slum population Citing Census figures the report says has been only a 256 per cent decadal increase in the number of rural households in Maharashtra as compared to 377 per cent increase in urban households mainly owing to inter-state and inter-district migration The report notes that such high levels of urbanization has implications on housing poverty in particular as is manifested in the increasing number of slum households in the state Comparison of the available National Sample Survey Organization data shows that slum households in the state have swelled from 16662 in 2002 to 17019 in 2009 Moreover any significant improvement in the three main housing facilities such as households with drinking water electricity and toilets were more pronounced in rural areas than in urban areas This the HDR notes “is a cause for concern given the fast paced urbanisation in the state” The Maharashtra HDI is the composite index of development indicators such as literacy rate gross enrollment rate infant mortality rate and per capita net domestic product (at constant prices) While housing is not one of the indicators in keeping with the basic capability approach of HDI the report states that the availability of housing has “direct bearing on the health and educational attainments of the population and thus impinges on their capabilities” In view of the startling housing poverty in urban Maharashtra the report suggests corrective measures such as revising the poverty line upwards to reflect the high cost of housing and if not ensuring that social housing programmes are not targeted merely at those below the poverty line This rural-urban disparity is also visible in the extent of inequality in consumption-distribution says the report Minal Naravane director at the Centre for Human Development at YASHADA and one of the main architects of the report said that as compared to the 2002 HDI the state had improved its performances on almost all development indicators She added that Maharashtra had also reduced the gender gap in literacy and life expectancy “However the decrease in child sex ratio from 913 in 2001 to 883 in 2011 is a cause for concern so is the quality of education with most children lacking in basic
