Bhanot slams media for ‘wrongly showing Village as ugly & filthy’

first_imgThe Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (OC) on Sunday came out strongly against a section of the media which is repeatedly “:trying to portray the Games Village as filthy and ugly”.Asked about pictures which had appeared in two prominent dailies on Sunday that depicted the toilets in the residential area of the Village as “:dirty”, OC secretary general Lalit Bhanot said this was “wholly wrong”.”A couple of newspapers chose to showcase pictures of a couple of bathrooms that are still being readied and of some that will not be used at all since the paan stains can be removed only through a grinding process that cannot be done now.”I can assure you that the athletes will enjoy their stay at the Games Village. The rooms are spacious and there is an average of one bathroom available for two athletes. The usual average is one bathroom for four athletes,” Bhanot said.The OC secretary general added: “All 34 towers in the residential zone of the Games Village are being readied for use by athletes and officials. The deep cleaning has been done and the furniture is there.We supply the linen only a day before the athletes and officials of respective countries arrive.” Bhanot also talked about the residential quarters allotted to the Indian contingent.”Different teams have been allotted different towers. India has been given towers nos. 29, 30 and 31. There is no problem at all. The Indian swimming team will move in on Monday,” he said.OC chairman Suresh Kalmadi visited the Games Village on Sunday as well. “I am satisfied and excited about the Games. My job is to deliver the Games and I wish the Village had been handed over six months before.
